Seven Prayers: Christian Chants Set for Three Voices

Plainchants from a noon prayer service used in the Orthodox (Western Rite) Church have been harmonized by adding two parts to the existing melodies. The additional parts are written like 'isons', though they are not always underneath the melody. The setting of the “Pater noster” is particularly interesting because the additional parts move around a melody consisting entirely of one pitch. The ranges for the parts are g2–a3 (Bass), d3–#c4 (Tenor2), g3–e4 (Tenor1). Though set for two tenors and one bass, the music will work with other combinations such as ATB or SAA. All of the text is in English except for 5)“Kyrie” and 6)“Pater noster”.
